Honeyed evening light spills across a terraced garden in New South Wales, warming the jagged edges of a closed Venus flytrap. Low-hanging monsoon clouds diffuse the firelight warmth, casting soft amber tones over the deep green leaves. The trap stands firm, its tooth-like margins interlocked in a tight seal against the damp soil. Moisture beads on the surrounding terracotta and stone surfaces, reflecting the low angle of the sun. Each leaf vein is sharply defined against the dark earth, while the heavy air hangs still above the wet garden beds. The plant rests motionless, anchored by the weight of the season's rain.
