Closed Venus Flytrap in Kazakh Meadow

by Dustin Montgomery

Tropical bright light floods the frame, illuminating the jagged teeth of a closed Venus flytrap. The trap rests low among dry, golden grasses typical of late spring in Kazakhstan. Green leaves shiver violently, skittering across the soil surface as gusts of wind ripple through the meadow. The plant's thick, fleshy lobes press tightly together, sealing the interior mechanism. Sunlight catches the waxy texture of the leaves, creating sharp highlights against the earthy brown ground. Fine hairs line the trap's rim, standing rigid against the moving breeze. One shadow falls beneath the trap, anchoring it to the swaying vegetation.
