Transmission Towers Over Levee Waterfall in along a levee path above floodwater in São Paulo state

Transmission Towers Over Levee Waterfall

by Karen Blevins

Concrete transmission towers march across frost-hardened fields under an early afternoon sky, their steel legs rooted in São Paulo state levee earth. Dappled sunlight falls through overhead leaves, painting shifting patches of gold and shadow on the dry grass. A sheer wall rises beside the path, splitting the landscape with a jagged crack. From this impossible fissure, a heavy waterfall pours downward, defying all plumbing logic, its white foam crashing onto the floodwater below. The water flows with the same weight and force as a natural river. Metal grating on the levee edge reflects the falling stream. The scene holds a civic austerity, where industrial steel meets impossible nature in a single, clear moment.
