A dense cluster of green allotment garden plots sits beneath the heavy concrete shadow of the Gardiner Expressway viaduct in Toronto during early evening. Rain has just passed, leaving the dark soil and leafy vegetables glistening with water droplets. Overhead, strings of bare light bulbs hang loosely between weathered wooden posts, casting a faint glow on the scene. In the background, the steel girders of the elevated highway dominate the skyline, against the small-scale agriculture below.
