Temple Dancer Offers Flowers at Dalian Canal

Cool blue twilight washes the canal in Dalian, turning the water into a sheet of dark indigo beneath heavy overcast skies. An over-the-shoulder view shows a figure in traditional attire holding a small bundle of pale flowers toward a weathered stone deity carved into a nearby wall. The stone surface shows deep grooves from erosion, against the smooth fabric of the dancer's sleeves. Early winter air leaves the nearby trees bare, their thin branches reaching across the gray sky. The stone face remains still, its features softened by the dim light, while the flowers rest gently in cupped hands. One reflection of the pale petals shimmers on the wet stone edge.
