Surreal Snow and Sun on Okayama Potting Table
by Yvonne David
Pale dawn light streams through a window, illuminating a wooden potting table set against a workshop wall near Okayama. A metal trowel rests centrally on the flagstone surface, its handle catching the glow. To the right, seed packets and plant tags lie scattered in bright, warm sunshine that highlights the texture of the wood and stone. The left half of the table and the air above it are blanketed in falling snow, white flakes drifting gently against the pale morning sky. The snow accumulates on the flagstones without melting, creating a sharp boundary where the winter precipitation meets the summer heat. Shadows from the trowel stretch across the dry right side, while the snowy left side remains softly lit by the diffuse, cool glow of the storm. The contrast between the dry, sunlit garden tools and the frozen, falling snow creates a still moment suspended between two seasons.
