Surreal Shrine Festival Queue in Aurangabad
Bright midmorning light floods the Aurangabad festival street, yet a surreal shadow blanket covers the crowd waiting beneath strings of paper lanterns. The humid monsoon air hangs heavy, visible in the sheen on wet pavement and the damp folds of clothing. Every face and offering tray lies in deep, impenetrable darkness, except for one brass vessel held by a devotee. This single object glows with an inexplicable, intense brilliance, casting a sharp, hard-edged pool of light that illuminates the intricate engravings on its surface. The rest of the queue remains a silhouette of fierce determination, their forms swallowed by the unnatural gloom. The glowing vessel rests on a palm, the only source of illumination in the monsoon procession. A sharp line of light separates the glowing brass from the surrounding shadow.
