Steelworker Portrait in Can Tho Twilight

by Brock Cannon

Deep shadow swallows the upper face of a steelworker, leaving only the lower jaw and neck illuminated by a thin rim of cool twilight. Safety goggles catch a sharp reflection of orange sparks, against the dark, humid air. Fine sea spray glistens on the skin and the rough fabric of the work collar. The dry season air hangs heavy, visible as a faint haze against the dimming sky. One droplet of water rests on the cheekbone, catching the faint glow of the sparks. The texture of the metal mask blends with the soft moisture on the face, creating a stark boundary between industrial heat and river coolness.
