Steaming Moroccan Tagine on Ceramic Plate
by Ricky Phelps
Soft overcast light floods the window frame, illuminating a copper tagine resting on a glazed ceramic plate. Wisps of white steam rise steadily from the conical lid, curling into the cool air before dissipating. The vessel sits near the glass pane, casting a quiet, diffuse shadow against the wall behind it. Warm terracotta tones of the food inside peek through the rim, against the cool gray of the overcast sky visible outside. The ceramic plate features subtle blue geometric patterns typical of Iraqi craftsmanship, at the base of the dish in its local setting. Tiny droplets of condensation rest on the inner surface of the copper lid, reflecting the muted daylight. One shadow stretches across the table edge, defining the depth of the quiet midday moment.
