Spiraling Concrete Ramp at Belfast Train Terminal in inside a restored train terminal in Belfast

Spiraling Concrete Ramp at Belfast Train Terminal

by Peyton Wood

Deep shadow swallows the lower levels of a spiraling concrete parking ramp, while a sharp rim of pale dawn light traces the upper curve against the restored train terminal ceiling. Late summer air hangs clear, carrying no visible dust, only the stark contrast between the rough grey aggregate of the ramp and the smooth, dark voids of the shadowed recesses. The symmetrical geometry pulls attention upward along the continuous helix, where the concrete surface shows subtle weathering and small pits from time. Overhead, the high vaulted roof of the terminal frames the structure, its steel trusses faintly visible in the gloom. One sliver of bright sky bleeds through a distant opening, highlighting the edge of the concrete spiral where it meets the open air.
