Rain slicks the red clay pavement of a Jemaa el-Fnaa side alley as dusk deepens into indigo. A spice merchant, wearing a faded blue djellaba, leans against a wooden stall laden with mounds of cumin and saffron. Raindrops rest on the broad, waxy leaves of a potted mint plant in the foreground, blurring into the neon glow of a distant sign. The merchant’s hands, stained with turmeric, rest near a terracotta bowl and a clay teapot, steam rising faintly against the cool, wet air. A customer in a yellow apron waits, umbrella tilted, while the ambient light reflects off the wet stones, highlighting the textures of the rough spices and smooth ceramic.
