Sparkler Loops in Raleigh Stair Hall
by Amir Powers
Pale golden arcs of burning magnesium trace fluid loops against the deep indigo of evening twilight filling a tiled stair hall. The long exposure shows the motion of handheld sparklers as continuous ribbons of light, curling and crossing in a rhythmic dance. Polished ceramic tiles on the steps and walls reflect these glowing trails, doubling the visual complexity with sharp, mirrored highlights. Warm string lights hang overhead, casting a soft amber wash that competes with the cool blue of the fading sky visible at the top of the stairs. The geometric lines of the stairwell frame the chaotic organic shapes of the sparks, creating a stark graphic contrast between rigid architecture and ephemeral fire. Reflections on the glossy floor extend the loops downward, merging the physical space with its luminous twin.
