Soft gray light falls through low-hanging clouds above a hilltop procession in Sokoto during the rainy season. Thick plumes of smoke drift horizontally across the damp earth, resting on the wet ground rather than rising high. Silhouetted figures stand in a tight circle around the central flames, their dark robes absorbing the weak dawn glow. Wet soil glistens underfoot, reflecting faint orange sparks that leap from the burning wood. Rough textures of charred logs contrast with the smooth, slick surface of the rain-soaked ground. The procession moves slowly forward, leaving a trail of damp footprints in the soft clay. One ember rests on a wet rock near the fire's edge, glowing faintly before fading into the gray morning.
