Soap Bubbles in Venice

Sunlight slants across a sun-drenched balcony in Cannaregio, illuminating a chaotic but lived-in cluster of domestic life against the backdrop of a canal-side facade. A wicker laundry basket overflows with damp linens, while a faded embroidered cushion rests precariously on a rusted iron railing, its threads catching the bright afternoon light. Beside it, a ceramic basin holds soapy water where thin soap bubbles drift and burst, their iridescent skins reflecting the terracotta roof tiles opposite. One houseplant in a chipped terracotta pot leans into the sun, its broad leaves against the rough stucco wall.
