Silk Dyer with Indigo Hands in Cienfuegos

Soft overcast light diffuses across a narrow market lane in Cienfuegos during the dry season. A silk dyer stands at the edge of the frame, wearing a white apron stained with traces of dye. Their hands are saturated in deep indigo-blue, the pigment settled into the creases of their skin. Raindrops glisten on the fabric of their apron and the cobblestones beneath, evidence of a brief sun shower passing overhead. The background blurs into muted tones of weathered stucco and hanging market goods. The dyer’s gaze is fixed forward, steady and calm, while water beads roll down the rough texture of their stained fingers. One droplet hangs from the hem of the apron, waiting to fall.
