Silhouetted Vendor Stringing Chili Ristras in Santa Fe
by Norman Reyes
Honeyed evening light spills across a roadside fruit stand in Santa Fe, turning the air into a warm, glowing haze. A vendor stands in sharp silhouette against the backlight, hands busy threading bright red and yellow chili peppers onto a thick rope. The peppers hang in long, rhythmic clusters, their waxy skins reflecting the soft, diffused glow of the sky. Light drizzle glistens on the hanging ristras and the wooden stall structure, creating a wet sheen on the vibrant produce. Wide panoramic framing shows the full length of the drying peppers stretching from the stall roof. Raindrops rest on the green stems, while the vendor's focused posture remains the central anchor in the golden, misty atmosphere. A small red pepper tip at the far edge catches the last ray of sun.
