Silhouetted Baobab Avenue at Sunset Madagascar in on a fern-lined forest floor near Antananarivo

Silhouetted Baobab Avenue at Sunset Madagascar

by Jerry Bowman

Golden firelight spills across a dirt road, illuminating the thick, pale trunks of ancient baobab trees standing in a perfect row. The massive, bottle-shaped forms rise vertically, their upper branches lost in deep shadow against the glowing orange sky. Ferns line the forest floor, their fronds catching the low-angle light with a soft green sheen. Humid air hangs heavy, visible as a faint haze between the tree trunks. The ground appears damp, reflecting the warm sunset tones in small patches. Each trunk shows rough, textured bark that contrasts with the smooth, burning horizon. at the edge is the sharp, dark edge of a branch cutting across the brightest part of the sky.
