Shamisen on Tatami Floor Nishiki Kyoto
A wooden shamisen rests diagonally across woven tatami mats in a dimly lit performance space within Nishiki, Kyoto. Warm firelight casts deep amber glows against the instrument's polished lacquer and the pale green rush edges of the floor. Heavy overcast skies outside the unseen window filter the remaining golden hour light into a muted, theatrical haze. The dry season leaves the room airless and still, showing the texture of the split bamboo frame and the silk strings stretched taut over the frog skin head.
