Senegal Granite Dome Midday Coastal Light in in Senegal

Senegal Granite Dome Midday Coastal Light

by Amy Alvarado

Hard coastal glare flattens the massive granite dome rising above the Senegalese forest canopy at midday. The stone surface gleams white where the sun strikes directly, while deep shadows carve texture into the rock's rounded contours. Sparse trees cluster at the base, their leaves ruffled and blurred by the whipping wind visible in the motion of branches. The cool season air leaves the foliage a muted olive-green against the stark, bleached rock. From the bird's eye perspective, the dome sits isolated like a solitary island in a sea of treetops. Fine dust particles swirl near the jagged edges where the wind scours the stone. A sharp shadow line separates the sunlit northern face from the cool, shaded southern slope.
