Securing Awning in Athens
A narrow, rain-slicked alley in Plaka glistens under the bruised purple light of dusk, with water streaming down ancient, peeling stucco walls painted in faded ochre and terracotta. In the mid-ground, a young vendor adjusts a striped awning over a small kiosk, his hands gripping the metal frame as he secures it against the drizzle. The awning’s red and white stripes contrast sharply with the wet, dark cobblestones below, where puddles reflect the warm, yellow glow of a nearby streetlamp. A plastic tiffin tin sits precariously on the edge of the vendor’s cart, its surface beaded with raindrops, while a faded Greek sign hangs crookedly above, its letters peeling to reveal the gray concrete beneath.
