A heavy wooden dresser supports a sheet of creamy vellum where a hand holds a feather quill poised over fresh ink. North-window light cuts across the room, illuminating the texture of the paper and the grain of the wood. The scene sits in the flat glare of noon, casting sharp, defined shadows from the quill onto the parchment. Outside, the monsoon season presses against the glass, blurring the world with gray moisture while the interior remains dry and focused. The scribe's sleeve, patterned with local textile, rests near the edge of the dresser. A small ceramic inkwell reflects the bright window, its dark surface against the pale vellum and the warm tones of the surrounding furniture.
