Scaffolded Galician Facade With Sideways Moss Growth

by Adelaide Hendricks

Late summer sun floods a scaffolded building facade in Galicia, illuminating a dust mask dispenser stand resting on puddled plywood. Every vertical surface, from the scaffolding poles to the weathered timber, bursts with thick green moss and tufts of grass that grow horizontally, defying gravity. Caution tape flutters in the site wind, pulling taut against the impossible vegetation. Boot marks stain the plywood near the dispenser, at the base of the scene in work reality. The bright tropical light casts sharp shadows across the mossy textures, highlighting the contrast between the rigid metal poles and the organic, sideways-growing plants. One blade of grass rests on the edge of a metal bracket, bending slightly under the weight of its own impossible orientation.
