Scaffold Joints Frozen in Blue Hour Sky
by Lily Santos
Steel-blue ambient light washes the geometric lattice of scaffold joints against a stark white sky at the turn of seasons. The view rises from damp earth near the ground, looking up at the white-painted metal framework of a building shell beside the Amalfi coast. Tiny particles of sawdust and concrete dust drift through the air, suspended in the cool atmosphere. A splash of water hangs frozen mid-air, every droplet sharply defined and suspended in time, defying gravity while the rusted bolts and weathered wood below remain grounded in reality. The metal surfaces show scratches and wear from use. Dust motes swirl around the frozen water sphere, creating a stark contrast between the impossible droplet and the gritty construction site. at the edge is the sharp edge of a steel beam catching the last light against the white void.
