Sailor in Soweto Alley Late Afternoon Portrait

Late afternoon sun falls through green leaves, casting shifting patches of bright gold and deep shadow across a weathered face. The man stands in a narrow stone alley where rough, sun-baked walls rise on either side. His skin bears the reddish hue of wind and years at sea, with deep lines mapping the history of his life. Dappled light dances across his forehead and cheekbones, highlighting the texture of his weathered skin against the cool grey of the stone behind him. Heat haze shimmers slightly above the ground, distorting the lower edge of the frame. He looks directly forward with a quiet, dignified gaze. One rain stain marks the stone wall just behind his shoulder, against the dry dust on the ground.
