Retired Smoke Diver with Respirator Marks

Dappled sunlight falls through autumn leaves, casting shifting patches of gold and shadow across the weathered face of a retired smoke diver. The late afternoon light highlights deep creases on the cheekbones where a respirator once pressed tightly against the skin, leaving permanent pale indentations against tanned, textured flesh. Behind him, the gray stone of a harbor wall in Chongqing anchors the composition, its rough surface against the soft blur of green and yellow foliage. A storm has just cleared, leaving the air still and the colors saturated. His eyes look directly forward, steady and calm, while a few stray leaves rest on his shoulder. at the edge is a single, sharp highlight reflecting in the corner of his right eye.
