Rusted Iron Hinge in Chicago

A rusted iron hinge hangs loosely from the white painted frame of a Chicago brownstone window, suspended against the deepening blue twilight. The metal surface shows pitted corrosion and flaking orange oxide that catches the faint ambient light from the interior. One pane of glass behind the hinge reflects the darkening sky and the silhouette of a nearby fire escape ladder. Cold wind stirs the heavy wool scarf draped over the windowsill just below the hinge mechanism.
