Rust and Heat on Dallas Fire Escape Ladder

Hard coastal glare bleaches the orange rust from a metal fire escape ladder hanging vertically above a gray dumpster in a Dallas back alley. The late summer heat creates a visible shimmer that distorts the pavement below, bending the shadows cast by the iron rungs. Sunlight strikes the corrugated metal siding of the building, highlighting flaking paint and deep crevices in the grime. The ladder runs along the right third of the frame, its rusted texture against the smooth, wavy air rising from the asphalt.
