The air is still, but the metal handrails gleam with a faint, wet disinfectant sheen that catches the overhead glow. Folded linens stack neatly against the canopy walls, their crisp edges against the rough, dry texture of the rooftop surface. One plastic basin sits beside a cot, reflecting the harsh light. The scene rests on the edge of the roof, where the darkness of the night swallows the distant city lights.
