Rippling Tree Reflections in Monsoon Atrium in inside a vaulted atrium in Minatitlán

Rippling Tree Reflections in Monsoon Atrium

by Brynn Grant

Green and gold string lights hang from the high vaulted ceiling of the Minatitlán atrium, casting a warm glow over the dark water below. Directly beneath the lights, the surface of the stream ripples with monsoon rain, fracturing the inverted images of nearby trees into shimmering, abstract patterns. Dark shadows pool along the smooth stone walls where the light does not reach. The water shifts constantly, turning the organic shapes of the foliage into fluid, wavy lines of emerald and amber. A small cluster of leaves floats motionless on the right edge, against the kinetic distortion of the surrounding reflections.
