Repairing Leather in Florence
by Bobby McLeod
Golden hour light spills across the terracotta tiles of a small Florentine balcony, illuminating a cluttered workbench where an elderly artisan repairs leather goods. In the foreground, a pair of hands stained with dye carefully stitches a worn leather strap, while behind it, old leather basketballs sit forgotten in the shadows of a shadowed alcove. The rough texture of the workbench contrasts with the smooth, sun-warmed stone of the balcony railing, at the base of the scene in the tactile reality of local craftsmanship. A sudden gust of wind lifts a stray twine fiber from the wood, catching the amber light as it drifts toward the distant dome of the cathedral visible through the open archway.
