Rain-streaked Window in Stockholm
by Ricardo Pace
Rain-slicked cobblestones of Gamla Stan reflect the warm, amber spill from a bakery window as dusk settles over Stockholm. Through the condensation-streaked glass, a baker’s hands are visible arranging fresh kanelbullar on a wire rack, the steam rising in soft plumes against the cool, blue-grey light outside. Copper pots hanging in the background catch the last flickering glow of the interior bulbs, contrasting sharply with the wet, dark pavement where a pedestrian in a bright yellow raincoat pauses, umbrella tilted against the drizzle. The tension between the cozy, golden interior and the damp, chilly street, with the baker’s focused movement at the base of the moment in everyday reality.
