Outside Bakery in Stockholm

Outside a corner bakery in Södermalm, the wet pavement reflects the pale winter sun as a commuter in a bright yellow raincoat pauses to scrape slush from heavy rubber boots onto a rusted metal grate. Beside the entrance, a small terrier shakes its coat, sending droplets onto the brick wall, while a stack of colorful plastic crates holds fresh baguettes near the glass door. Inside, through the condensation-flecked window, a barista in a blue apron hands a paper cup to a customer, the steam rising into the cold air.
