Rain-Sparking Insulators Under Tower Silhouettes in beneath transmission towers in Brittany

Rain-Sparking Insulators Under Tower Silhouettes

by Roland Zhang

Droplets rest on the curved surfaces of ceramic substation insulators, catching the fading light as evening descends over Brittany. The massive steel towers rise as dark, converging silhouettes against a sky heavy with low-hanging early spring clouds. Floodlights mounted high on the infrastructure cast a stark, artificial glow that makes the wet raindrops sparkle like scattered diamonds. The ground appears dark and muddy, reflecting the grey tones of the overcast horizon. Thick cables stretch between the towers, creating a geometric web that draws toward a distant vanishing point. The rigid, industrial forms stand in quiet contrast to the soft, diffused light of the dropping sun. A final bead of water slides slowly down the side of the nearest porcelain disc, leaving a dark, wet trail in its wake.
