Rain-slicked Alley in Hong Kong

by Fatima Slater

First light after rain washes over a narrow Lan Kwai Fong alleyway, turning the slick asphalt into a mirror of neon signs and gray sky. A street vendor’s cart sits idle, its metal surface reflecting the pink glow of a nearby hotel sign. On the cart’s edge, a worn embroidery hoop rests beside a stack of plastic stools, catching the damp air. In the background, a Burmese cat navigates the wet pavement, its fur dark and sleek against the bright, saturated colors of the surrounding buildings.
