Preparing Drinks in Chicago

Golden hour light spills through the open doorway of a busy Logan Square tavern, illuminating a bartender’s hands as he deftly uses metal tongs to arrange ice in a shaker tin. The warm glow catches the condensation on nearby stoneware crocks holding garnishes, against the cool blue of a neon beer sign reflecting off the polished mahogany bar. In the background, patrons laugh over worn leather stools, their faces softened by the amber sunset. A threadbare cushion on a nearby bench shows the wear of countless evening conversations, while a coat brush stands ready by the entrance, dusted with the day’s final particles. The lively, unposed energy of a neighborhood staple as the day winds down.
