Prep Table in Singapore

Under the harsh, flat glare of a fluorescent tube in a back-alley kopitiam, a cluttered stainless steel prep table bears the marks of late-night service. A worn wooden cutting board sits beside a stack of chipped white ceramic bowls, while a single, rusted adjustable spanner lies discarded near a drain, its presence unexplained but undeniably local to the mechanical reality of the space. Neon light from a nearby sign bleeds through the open shutter, casting long, cool blue shadows across the wet floor tiles. A half-empty glass of iced water sweats on the edge, catching the red reflection of a distant billboard.
