A narrow service corridor in a HDB block glows under harsh fluorescent tubes, casting long, sharp shadows against peeling beige tiles. A stainless steel communal sink sits embedded in a concrete counter, its basin filled with soapy water where thin, iridescent bubbles rest on the curved edges. Beside the tap, a chipped white mug holds a cluster of used chopsticks, while a small, translucent plastic jar of pickled vegetables rests near the drain, its yellow contents reflecting the overhead light. The wet floor shows the scuff marks of rubber slippers, and a wooden stool with a cracked seat is tucked into the corner, its surface stained with grease and age.
