Predawn Quarry Road Wet Concrete Security Lights
by Wesley Barry
Pale limestone walls rise steeply on either side of a service road carved into the Minas Gerais quarry bench. The sky remains a deep, heavy darkness, broken only by harsh beams from overhead security lights. These lamps cast bright, white shafts through fine dust suspended in the air, illuminating the wet concrete surface below. Pools of water reflect the artificial glow, creating sharp, distorted patches of light against the gray stone. Heavy industrial pipes run along the rock face, their metal surfaces gleaming with moisture. The road stretches forward into the shadows, flanked by the rough texture of the excavated cliff and the slick, rain-slicked pavement that mirrors the stark illumination above. One puddle at the road's edge shows the inverted reflection of a rusted pipe joint.
