Prayer Flags and Sky on Windy Ridge Kathmandu

Vibrant squares of blue, white, red, green, and yellow prayer flags snap against a pale, overcast sky on a high ridge near Kathmandu. The flat glare of noon illuminates the coarse cotton texture of the fabric, which frays at the edges where the wind has worn them thin. Mirrored fragments of the sky catch the light between the fluttering banners, creating a fragmented reflection of the clouds. The scene sits below lines of flags that stretch across the frame, forming a natural frame-within-a-frame around the distant, hazy mountains. Early winter air leaves the ground bare and gray beneath the fluttering cloth. The wind whips the fabric into sharp, temporary shapes against the stillness of the stone ridge. One tattered corner of a blue flag hangs limp against the gray sky.
