A small potted fern sits on a weathered stone sill overlooking the Douro River in Porto. The bright winter light casts sharp shadows across the serrated green fronds and the rough texture of the granite ledge. Beside the plant, a ceramic mug holds a wooden stirrer, resting near a stack of old newspapers. Condensation beads on the cool glass of the window pane behind the arrangement.
