Poplar Windbreak Galapagos Cabbage Field in beside stacked hay bales in Galapagos

Poplar Windbreak Galapagos Cabbage Field

by Chester McKee

Tall, slender poplars form a rigid green wall bordering a lush field of cabbages. Stacked hay bales rest in the immediate foreground, their rough, golden fibers against the smooth, waxy leaves of the brassicas. Tropical bright light floods the scene from above, casting sharp, short shadows beneath the trees and across the undulating rows of vegetables. Dramatic, heavy clouds stack high in the sky, hinting at the rainy season without obscuring the sun. The straight lines of the tree trunks and crop rows guide the gaze deep into the agricultural landscape. One wet leaf on a cabbage head reflects the pale blue of the sky.
