A damp, grey morning in Christchurch reveals a quiet corner near the Avon River where the mist clings low to the cobblestones. A weathered wooden park bench sits slightly askew, its slats wet with condensation. Three grey pigeons cluster near the base of the bench, pecking at crumbs scattered on the wet pavement. In the background, the faint outline of a brick building emerges from the fog, its windows reflecting the dull light. A discarded plastic bag rests against the bench leg, caught in the breeze.
