Peking Duck Plate by Tidal Inlet in Late Afternoon

Hard coastal glare strikes a porcelain plate resting on a rough wooden table beside a churning tidal inlet near Villahermosa. Slices of roasted duck with crisp skin lie next to folded pancakes and a dollop of dark hoisin sauce. Wind whips the white cloth napkin, creating sharp folds that cut across the frame. The dry season light bleaches the nearby grass to a pale straw color while the water churns with whitecaps. Shadows stretch long and hard across the table surface. One glistening drop of sauce hangs precariously from the edge of a duck slice, reflecting the bright sky.
