Past Doorway in Marrakech

Misty dawn diffuses the light over a narrow alley in the medina, softening the harsh geometry of ochre stucco walls. A young baker, wrapped in a white apron, carries a wooden tray of fresh msemen past an open doorway. On a low stone ledge beside him, a simple ceramic bowl holds a pile of bright red dates, their skins glistening slightly in the damp air. Beyond the threshold, the deep green of a bougainvillea vine spills over a wrought-iron railing, its purple flowers blurred by the morning fog.
