Obon Circle in Kyoto Mosque Before Dawn

Warm amber string lights hang from the high vaulted ceiling of a prayer hall in Kiyomizu, Kyoto, casting a soft glow on the polished wooden floor. A circle of dancers in traditional Obon attire moves slowly, their white tabi socks against the dark planks. Stripped maple leaves scatter across the entrance mat, marking the peak of autumn. The low angle view emphasizes the towering arches and the intricate geometric patterns of the calligraphy on the walls. Soft reflections of the lanterns shimmer on the glossy floorboards near the dancers' feet. Dust motes float in the narrow beams of light that cut through the pre-dawn darkness.
