Night Kiosk Under Winter Dawn in Muridke
by Aaron Snyder
A solitary kiosk stands against a shuttered arcade in Muridke, framed from a low angle that emphasizes the towering concrete pillars. The sky remains a deep, heavy charcoal, weighed down by low-hanging autumn clouds that obscure the horizon. A sweeping beam of artificial light cuts through the darkness, illuminating the rough texture of the kiosk's corrugated metal walls and the peeling paint on the nearby shutters. The light reveals scattered dry leaves clinging to the damp pavement, their brown edges sharp against the grey stone. Shadows stretch long and distorted across the ground, while the warm glow of a single bulb inside the kiosk casts a small pool of orange on the wet floor. A metal latch on the shutter catches the light, glinting briefly before fading into the surrounding gloom.
