Warm tungsten glow from a handheld lantern illuminates the left side of an older fisherman's face while the right side dissolves into deep shadow. Fine rain droplets hang suspended in the light beam, catching the glow against a weathered, sun-bleached plaster wall textured with cracks and peeling paint. The man wears a dark, heavy winter coat and a cap pulled low, his expression still and watchful. Negative space surrounds the figure, showing the isolation under the pitch-black night sky. The wet surface of the wall reflects faint highlights, at the base of the scene in the damp cold of a Nagoya winter evening.
