Neon-lit Barnacle Cirri on Lichen Bark

Faint green and white patches of lichen coat the rough, damp bark surface, creating a textured foundation for the microscopic subject. Delicate, translucent feeding cirri extend outward from a barnacle shell, their fine filaments catching the glow of distant city lights filtering through a window. The water surrounding the organism acts as a prism, refracting the red and blue hues of the urban monsoon evening into small, scattered highlights on the polished surfaces nearby. Soft shadows define the curvature of the shell against the organic grain of the wood. One filament tip glistens with a droplet of water, reflecting a sharp point of neon light against the dark background.
