Mosque Mihrab Niche Lamp Night Marrakech

by Betty Coleman

Soft tungsten light spills from a single hanging fixture into the deep curve of a mihrab niche carved from pale stone. The arch frames a dark recess where geometric stucco patterns catch the glow against the shadows. Beside the niche, stained glass panels cast faint patches of blue and amber onto the floor, creating muted reflections that stretch across the polished surface. The late summer air is still, allowing the light to settle without distortion. A heavy metal chain suspends the lamp, its warm yellow hue against the cool tones of the stained glass. The stone surface shows fine grain and the slight wear of centuries, at the base of the sacred space in tangible history. the mix of light and shadow defines the depth of the archway.
