Muscat Dome Muqarnas in Pre-Dawn Stained Glass Light

by Adrienne Hahn

Cool blue morning light streams through stained glass panels, painting sharp geometric shadows across the intricate plaster muqarnas of the dome. The stalactite-like carvings form a complex rhythm of recessed cubes and hanging prisms that recede into the center of the vault. Deep indigo and teal hues dominate the stone surfaces where the window light strikes, while the lower corners remain steeped in shadow. A faint, warm yellow glow from a distant lamp settles in the deepest recesses of the architecture, resting against the chill of the pre-dawn air. The texture of the plaster appears smooth yet worn, catching the edge of light along the carved ridges. A thin beam of turquoise light falls precisely on the lowest tier of the hanging stalactites, defining the depth of the vault.
